Remembered Today:

Wreck of WW1 sub discovered near Texel

On the west side of the Dutch island of Texel the wreck of a British WW1-sub has been discovered (link in Dutch).

A Dutch naval investigator claims to have seen the wreck on sonar images.

It probably sunk after a collision in 1917 and now rests on about 8 meters depth.

It is possible the sub still has its torpedoes on board.

The reference would seem to be to E 36 (the only British submarine lost in a collision in the area in 1917) however, the wreck of that submarine has been located and positively identified in recent years. I'm not sure if this means that he’s also found the wreck of E 36, has found a different submarine wreck, or found something he thinks is a submarine wreck but in actuality is something else.

Wikipedia has an article on E-36 (updated today) giving that its believed to be the wreckage that's been found, it also has a link to another Dutch report with a picture of the sonar scan

Edit: There more info on E36 (but not on the latest claim) Here

The mod just removed my duplicate thread; I removed my posts in this thread about this error.

Just read in Dutch press an investigation by divers has made clear the wreck is no lost sub, but an unknown mercantile ship.
