The following is from the War Dairy of the 2nd Wilts.

14 October 1914

Location: On train

Joined Division at ROULERS and marched to YPRES doing right flank guard to Division. Battalion billeted for night in Kaiserine Barracks YPRES.

I am looking for a contemporary photo of the barracks, Can anyone help please?

I have never heard of either of the old Ypern barracks being called "Kaiserine." I've only heard of them referred to as the Infantry Barracks or Cavalry Barracks, the latter sometimes being called an Equitation School.

Some misunderstanding by the diarist of the common cross-lingual word "Kaserne/Kazerne/Caserne" for barracks maybe ?

Are facsimiles of old Antony postcards still generally sold in Ieper ? That would probably be a good source.

Apologies for the late response, I somehow contrived to miss your post until now.

I think that you are probably right with your cross-lingual theory. Thanks
