POIs for Memorials?

BraunstonBruce's excellent work on the CWGC cemeteries has made finding them an absolute doddle - most of the time. So I wondered if anyone had done anything similar to help find the many memorials to units, actions etc that are scattered along the western front?

For Belgium you might try www.greatwar.be. This site gives details, a brief description, a picture and latitude and longitude, district by district of all memorials and other sites in Flanders. It has an English version.

Thanks Old Tom - they even do downloads for most GPS formats.

Now - what about France?

Phil,

I have hundreds of them mapped for both France and Belgium - my website is at the link in my signature.

I wouldn't normally tout my website here, but I'm just in the process of changing the website to make it 'donation ware' instead of selling the files so it's soon to become non-commercial. I've decided to give the product away instead - in the hope that some kind souls will make a donation to my charity fundraising page (I'm doing the London Marathon next year for the Children's Society).

'Western Front - South' POI? What are you going to call the near 300 miles of Western Front that is further south of the scope of these files should you ever produce some POI's for those areas?

Dave

(only joking... that was one of my biggest gripes with the Holts' 'Western Front South' guidebook too... they miss the south of the western front by nearly a third of it's full length!)

Good point, and well presented Sir! I have unashamedly followed the Holts' guidebooks (amongst others)...!

I've just finished updating the site, so now the files should be available for download - for free (with a donation encouraged of course!) at the link here. If anyone has any feedback (especially if it doesn't work properly!) could you let me know either here or via PM. I've got fairly broad shoulders and don't mind constructive criticism, but a lot of work has gone into to the project so please don't be too harsh - at least publicly!

I've had to do some serious fiddling with the code to get round my web hosting package restrictions (particularly for tracking), and while it all chugs along on my computer it would be reassuring to know that others can use the site as well.

I hope it's useful anyway - looking forward to any feedback (I think...!!).
