Robatham Posted 7 September , 2013 Share Posted 7 September , 2013 Hello all of the forum. Can anyone help? I am trying to find out any information about my granddad George Alfred Robotham. He served with the Royal Field Artillery in the 1914 -18 War and was wounded at Cambrai. He originated from Pontymoile in Pontypool, Monmouthshire. He was part of a line of Robotham’s who were all soldiers. Three of these were in the Monmouthshire Regiment and South Wales Borderers – serving in the Boer War. George Alfred originally joined the Church Scouts in 1910 and enlisted in 1914. (He would have been 19). He may have joined ‘The Panteg Battery’ – but I’m not sure. I have his medals, his service number and some information written in the Church Scouts Records: 12953 BMBR G A Robotham Record: ‘wounded – with 3 wounds – one a bullet at Cambrai – stuck it for 4 days’. David Porter Posted 7 September , 2013 Share Posted 7 September , 2013 Robatham, His Medal Index Card shows he landed in France on August 28, 1915. There is no mention of RAF but he was discharged on January 1, 1919. There is also a Silver War Badge listing which gives his enlistment date as September 2, 1914 and discharged from Class P. Army reserve, Surplus to Military requirements. He was 24 and was given Silver War Badge No. B86016. So far this seems to point to him joining the Royal Air Force in 1919 and not 1917. L Battery was part of the RHA but not in the Guards Division - see http://www.1914-1918.net/gdiv.htm
