nigelshipp Posted 7 September , 2013 Share Posted 7 September , 2013 (edited) Recently a post identified a Norhants regiment man to a labour company by number (36683) 'His numbers would have put him in 9th Infantry Labour Company of the Northamptonshire Regiment from about March 1917' Can anyone help me with these questions Is there a range of numbers that would help me identify any other Northants men that belonged to this unit? I'm aware of the 4th battalion 200 numbers but could you tell if there are any other number ranges that would identify any of the other Northants battalions or sub units Do Northants Regiment numbers relate to enlistment periods Finally, were the labour companies independent or part of one of the service battalions Kindest Regards Nigel Edited 7 September , 2013 by nigelshipp
Coldstreamer Posted 7 September , 2013 Share Posted 7 September , 2013 speaking for the Coldstream Gds and Im sure most regiments will be the same service numbers can provide an enlistment date but its not 100% accurate as I have known numbers issued to in-fill gaps or a man rejoins and gets his old number back
