egbert Posted 4 September , 2013 Share Posted 4 September , 2013 Lots of captured tanks - It says some 100 out of 3-400 tanks participating in the operation. Can anybody confirm this number? http://www.filmportal.de/video/nach-der-tankschlacht-bei-cambrai-dezember-1917
Guest Posted 4 September , 2013 Share Posted 4 September , 2013 On page 369 of Pete Hart's " The Great War " he says (Cambrai)" three tank brigades (476 tanks) " that is 476 taking part in the battle, I think? Mike Edit The LLT also says 476 tanks
spconnolly007 Posted 4 September , 2013 Share Posted 4 September , 2013 Superb thanks Egbert. Thankfully the war finished just in time to save all the trees and lamp posts of Europe
6th Shropshires Posted 4 September , 2013 Share Posted 4 September , 2013 Hi Egbert Great film, thanks for posting it. There may well have been about 100 or so knocked out tanks left on the battlefield by the time of the German counter-attack but the greater part of these would have been badly damaged ones and of no use other then scrap. egbert Posted 5 September , 2013 Author Share Posted 5 September , 2013 Found the following on Cambrai: Ivor Halstead, "The Truth About Our Tanks": "Of the tanks, 71 were abandoned for mechanical reasons, 43 bogged down and 65 were hit and destroyed...." and ".....after 48 hours there were only 60 or 70 still operating...." Barnbarroch Posted 24 October , 2013 Share Posted 24 October , 2013 WOW! Thanks for posting this. I thought I might even see the wreck of Bandit II which my great uncle Frank Vans Agnew was in. No such luck - but what a piece of film! Thanks again, Jamie.
