This one has the lot - even what looks to me to be an early bangalore torpedo! Mind you, never saw the term 'Trichter' in use in connection with WW1 trench warfare before... I only know it from archaeology - a 'Trichterbecher' is a Bronze Age beaker...

A Trichter is a shell-hole or crater. It also means 'funnel' and I have, somewhere, a Great War vintage cartoon of a Trichterfeld, showing a field covered in funnels.

Ahaa, now I see the connection with them Bronze Age pots - Funnel-shaped beakers... Better known as Bell Beakers in the UK... Thanks! Love to see that cartoon... :thumbsup:
