I can't indentify this man from what is inscribed on the headstone below, in Blackrod Cemetery, Lancashire. He's named on Blackrod's war memorial as John C. Partington. And does anyone know what L.C.V. might be an abbreviation of? 'V' for Volunteers?

The CWGC database seems to give me two to choose from plus an outsider.

10959 Lance Corporal John Partington, Machine Gun Corps (Infantry). Died 14.9.1916.

56795 Sapper J.Partington, Royal Engineers. Died 15.9.1916.

There's also R/19742 Rifleman Jonothan Partington, King's Royal Rifle Corps. Died 15.9.1916.

Would suggest Spr. J. Partington, service papers available on ancestry

Sapper born and enlisted Bolton.

KRRC born and resident Littleborough (Manch?) enlisted Rochdale.

Suggest that the LCV will be a qualification of some kind.
