Hi,

Might anyone be able to provide me with a date of enlistment for the above soldier from his service number please?

He enlisted at Wainfleet, Lincolnshire and died in France./Flanders as a consequence of wounds sustained on the 7th December 1917 whilst serving with the 2/5th Battalion,

Prince of Wales's Own (West Yorkshire Regiment).

Any assistance much appreciated.

Regards

Paul

You may realise that he had a second number which is the one which needs relating to an enlistment date. The 202016 was a re-number of the 5th Battalion on 1917 and before then his number was 4428. From the Silver War Badge records, which show enIistment dates for numbers near to 4428,a sample shows it possible that he enlisted between April and June 1915,always assuming that the numbers at that time were in a strict sequence and did not include any re-issues which might cloud the sequence:

4313 on 27 March 1915

4660 on 20 July 1915.

Many thanks Sotonmate,

No, I had no idea that it was a re-number, how did you know this?

If you click on Long Long Trail at top left of this page and then enter 1917 re- numbering in the box at top right of the LLT page you will get the detail.
