Guest mandatoryhh Posted 29 August , 2013 Share Posted 29 August , 2013 Hi there, Can anyone help identify this cap badge? I've tried to see if I can find out which one it is, but no luck. The chap was from West Ham, if that helps at all, and he would have been in his mid 20s at the start of the War. (Sorry for the poor quality, it was a very small picture!) Thank you! johnboy Posted 30 August , 2013 Share Posted 30 August , 2013 If you give a name and if poss a service number and whether he survived or a date he died some one may be able to find a record for him.

Old Owl Posted 30 August , 2013 Share Posted 30 August , 2013 I agree, the double scroll gives it away as 20th Londons. Robert
mrjustinhayward Posted 30 August , 2013 Share Posted 30 August , 2013 Yes it looks like 20th London Regiment. Also known as the Queens Own Justin H

I have this in my book, very distinctive and the only one of the London Regiments that looks anything like this. It is a rearing horse on a double scroll base. It is also described as follows...... Officer, 20th London Regiment (the Queens Own). Was this man an officer? Mike
Staffsyeoman Posted 30 August , 2013 Share Posted 30 August , 2013 Not necessarily. There were soldiers' and Officers' patterns of this badge (essentially the same). I remember seeing a bronze officers' Service Dress version at Hollyhedge House (their HQ) when I was based there.
mrjustinhayward Posted 30 August , 2013 Share Posted 30 August , 2013 I thought the officers badge was quite small? Justin H
Steven Broomfield Posted 30 August , 2013 Share Posted 30 August , 2013 As he's wearing O.R.'s jacket, I suspect he's not an officer.
