T8HANTS Posted 29 August , 2013 Share Posted 29 August , 2013 I have been trying to find a good British trench plan with names of our positions southwest of Gaza, as I am trying to find Yeomanry Trench which was the jumping off point for 163 Bde during the third battle for Gaza. As with most British trench maps names are few, and I suspect it is linked to a position known as Jones Post, but I would like to confirm it, if anyone has some details - Ta! T8HANTS Posted 29 August , 2013 Author Share Posted 29 August , 2013 Gareth Thanks for that, I recognise it from the 8th hants WD, but sadly thats the map I am trying to clarify. If only there was a nice detailed map showing all the British trenches in the same detail as that of the Turks. Would make my efforts in writing the Rifles history so much easier now that I am on the second revision, following suggestions by my proof readers. Gareth Davies Posted 30 August , 2013 Share Posted 30 August , 2013 Sorry, couldn't find any maps to help you. I do know that the 54th Div War Diary has some maps that show Turkish trenches in detail. I assume you have seen 54 Div Order No 39 dated 28th October? That has quite a lot of detail but I only have a very poor print out of it here.
T8HANTS Posted 30 August , 2013 Author Share Posted 30 August , 2013 Thank-you very much for looking Gareth, unfortunately I don't have copies of 54th Division war diaries. Until recently getting to the NA was all but impossible, so on my one brief trip I concentrated on photographing as much 163 Bde material as I could get done in a day.
