Nick62 Posted 27 August , 2013 Posted 27 August , 2013 I note that FindMyPast contains the GRO War Deaths Army Other Ranks Indices 1914-1921 which appear to have Volume & Page # references very similar to the usual GRO Death Indices. Is it possible to order a soldier's death certificate from the GRO in a manner similar to ordering a "normal" death certificate from the GRO, simply referencing the volume & page in this index? Has anyone done this and what sort of information is contained in these death certificates? Are the certificates the same format as the "normal" ones, or a special Army format? Thanks very much, Nick

Admin kenf48 Posted 27 August , 2013 Admin Posted 27 August , 2013 Yes, this earlier thread describes the process http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=196776&hl=%2Bdeath+%2Bcertificate essentially the type of certificate and amount of information depends on whether or not it was an 'overseas certificate' or the soldier died in England or Wales, the former are usually very sparse in detail whereas the latter are recorded in the normal way in the registration district where he died. Nick62 Posted 27 August , 2013 Author Posted 27 August , 2013 Kath & Ken, Thank you both. I should have known a simple search would yield the answer. I have the details for the person in question from both Soldiers Died & CWGC. It doesn't sound like I'll get any new revelations from the death certificate but I suppose it will round out the documentation. Thanks again, Nick
