Dannemois Posted 26 August , 2013 Posted 26 August , 2013 Thomas George Reed, Private 18614, was with the Welsh 13th Battalion when he was KIA on 10th July 1916, his name commemorated on Thiepval Memorial Pier 7a Face 10a. Can someone please tell me where the 13th were when he was killed. Thanks
Garron Posted 26 August , 2013 Posted 26 August , 2013 10th of July 1916, That would be Mametz Wood on the Somme, it was 38th Welsh Divs major battle during the Somme campaign. Here is a thread with a lot of info on the battle.http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=78472 Gaz
Colin W Taylor Posted 26 August , 2013 Posted 26 August , 2013 Dannemois There is a detailed account in the war diary which can be downloaded for about £3.50. http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/SearchUI/Details?uri=C4555710 It’s a bit too long to transcribe. Kind regards Colin
Garron Posted 26 August , 2013 Posted 26 August , 2013 Send me a Pm and I'll email you the July 1916 diary for free, I bought July 1916 ages ago before they started batching them into divisions rather than separate months.Gaz
