LCpl Lee Cope Posted 24 August , 2013 Share Posted 24 August , 2013 Hello folks, Please feel free to look over the attached item. It's from my Great Grand Uncle's RNAS service paper work. I may have read the attachment wrong, so feel free to correct me if I am. Who and what were 'C' section please?
LCpl Lee Cope Posted 24 August , 2013 Author Share Posted 24 August , 2013 I've found a 'C' squadron who were in the Aegean Sea in 1918... Could this section/Squadron be the same thing? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Royal_Air_Force_aircraft_squadrons
nieuport11 Posted 25 August , 2013 Share Posted 25 August , 2013 It's a section within the Aircraft Depot isn't it? Followed by another section within the AD -presumably just a work unit with the Depot
Airshipped Posted 25 August , 2013 Share Posted 25 August , 2013 It looks like it's just a section of the aircraft depot, e.g. see the date above reads 19 January 1918. On the right-hand side of these lines you'll see Pres II, which refers to President II, a notional accounting/shore establishment. (Definitely not C Squadron of the Mediterranean, which I gather was renumbered No.220 Squadron RAF). I'd hazard a guess that the DL references are to being discharged on leave. (If I'm looking up records it's generally that of the fallen, which have a DD reference instead, presumably means discharged deceased or some Latin equivalent).
