Bobbyh57 Posted 17 August , 2013 Posted 17 August , 2013 I am researching the 11 brigade RFA, and have used the following from The Long Long Trail site XI Brigade This was a unit of Britain's pre-war regular army. It is also sometimes shown as 11 Brigade RFA. History Comprising numbers 83, 84 and 85 Batteries, this brigade came under command of the 7th (Meerut) Division of the Indian Army. It moved to the 3rd (Lahore) Division on 22 November 1914. When the Division left France, the brigade remained and eventually came under command of the 3rd Canadian Division before going to the 4th Canadian Division in October 1916, with which it served until August 1917. At that point it became an Army Brigade and served with the following: Fourth Army in August 1917, Fifth Army in November 1917, Fourth Army again in December 1917, Second Army in February 1918. Can any help with locating diaries for April 1918. I have diaries for time attached to Canadians but having trouble finding them after Aug 1917. Bob H
David Porter Posted 18 August , 2013 Posted 18 August , 2013 Bob, The National Archives reference is WO 95/293 which contains 11 Army Field Artillery Brigade 1917 Sept. - 1919 Jan. It is under Second Army. I think a "D" battery was added when it became an Army Brigade.
Bobbyh57 Posted 18 August , 2013 Author Posted 18 August , 2013 Thanks David. I am trying to locate where the battery was and what was happening when my great uncle (Sgt John Knott 36000) was severely wounded in April 1918.
