John_Hartley Posted 17 August , 2013 Posted 17 August , 2013 You'd need to access the war diary of his battalion to see exactly what they were up to at the time. Might be available online at the National Archives website or you may have to go to Kew to view it there. His burial at Daours is interesting. According to the CWGC website, it was a front line burial ground at the beginning of August but had become a plot for the burials of deaths at the adjacent field hospitals. He died of wounds so will have been at one of the hospitals - that probably means he suffered his fatal injuries sometimne in the previous week.
