dutch701 Posted 13 August , 2013 Posted 13 August , 2013 Hi guys, A friend gave me a bag of some military stuff at the week end containing several items including these shoulder flashes, buttons and a very worn cap badge of the Irish Guards. Being ex Scots Guards and wareing our buttons in sets of three on the cuffs of our tunic I presume that the smaller buttons are for the cuffs of the tunic and the four larger ones for the front of the tunic its self with the odd button which is slightly smaller than the smaller ones from the breast pockets or the epaulettes. The buttons have the kings crown so i assume they are pre 1953. There is also a cap star/badge that as been well over polished but you can see the shamrock and the motto still on the reverse. What I am asking si how would the buttons have been set out and exactly what dress would these brass buttons been worn on ie No2 dress? Regards Shane.

ARABIS Posted 14 August , 2013 Posted 14 August , 2013 The buttons are the brass other ranks pattern with the King's crown worn from the beginning of Edward VIIs reign to the end of George VIs reign. They were worn in groups of four on full dress.
sw63 Posted 14 August , 2013 Posted 14 August , 2013 That is one polished badge! The shoulder flashes are not WWI as they are not square-ended. Afraid I don't know when they changed to round-ended ones but it was defintiely post 1918. Simon
