SFayers Posted 12 August , 2013 Posted 12 August , 2013 In memory of those men of the 1/5th Suffolks, 1/5 and 1/4th Norfolks and 1/8th Hants who died this day, 12th August 1915, in their first action on the Anafarta Plain at Suvla Bay, Gallipoli. This evening I'll be raising a glass to my nan's cousin Stanley Henry Scarff, a young lad from Hadleigh who died this day serving as Private 1553 in A Company of the 1/5th Suffolks. Stanley, like all too many of his comrades who were killed on the 12th, has no known grave and is commemorated on the Helles Memorial. Gone but not forgotten Kind regards Steve
