Khaki Posted 12 August , 2013 Posted 12 August , 2013 I know that the original meaning referred to the fallen, to me as to you, it now, I am sure relates to all Great War service men and women, but it gave me pause to think and I started testing myself as to memory, for example, did I remember the last GW veteran that I had a conversation with? or that I called on the phone? the last time I actually saw them march in a memorial parade, the last one I saw wearing GW association members badges etc etc. It really stretched my memory somewhat, but I was able to, in my own way, "remember them" for your own thought and memories khaki
River97 Posted 12 August , 2013 Posted 12 August , 2013 I am about to crack the dreaded 40 soon, and even to this day I can remember seeing my Great Grand Pa (he's in my signature) sitting in a chair at some of the family's house. This was in 1977 and I was only 3. As for locals, my mum used to deliver Meals on Wheels to an 'old man' in the eighties. Even as a primary school student I managed to find out he was a first day lander on ANZAC Cove. If only we could go back and have our time again. The questions we would ask and the friendships we would strike with these old warriors. Cheers Andy.
