Remembered today with great pride the Penmaenmawr Quarry Boys, 6/RWF, who had landed on C Beach, Suvla Bay on the 9th August, 1915. Captain Frank Mills, 6/RWF wrote in his diary:

"About 6 pm that evening, Wheeler, Arthur Davies and I all went down to have a swim in the sea. We had discarded our packs so we only had what we stood in, thin drill. ... The next day both Wheeler and Arthur Davies were killed."

Major Augustus Wheeler was the Quarry Manager and the following day he led his men from Lala Baba over the Great Salt Lake to meet the withering fire of small arms and machine guns raining down on them from the Turkish hills.

Frank Mills went on to say:

"We fought all day ... by the evening I only had 24 men left out of 180. The men were marvellous."

Also not forgotten, all their comrades in the 5th, 6th & 7th Royal Welch Fusiliers.

I wonder if they will be officially remembered today at the Eisdeddfod. It is only down the road at Denbeigh.

It would be perfect if the men from North Wales who fought at Suvla Bay were remembered at the Eisteddfod today.
