Tom Lang Posted 8 August , 2013 Posted 8 August , 2013 I'm planning a trip in late April 2014 to visit my grandfather's grave. He is buried in Gouzeaucourt New British Cemetery. I'd like to ask for your advice of what the weather should/could/might/will be like in Late April (24th to be exact). I know it'll probably be hail/rain/snow/sun/wind all on the same day, so what would be your advice on what to wear. I've booked into a hotel in Cambrai, and will be travelling around by car. Thanks in advance. Tom.
micks Posted 8 August , 2013 Posted 8 August , 2013 Hi Tom In 2011 I cycled to the south of France and the weather was beautiful. In 2012 I cycled in northern France and it was predominately wet and cool. In 2013 I cycled through Belguim to Paris and the weather was windy, wet and at times unbelievably cold. Regarding clothing go with the layering system with a waterproof outer and boots. A umberella always comes in handy All the best Micks
Guest exuser1 Posted 8 August , 2013 Posted 8 August , 2013 Hi Tom , have lived in Northern France 3 years now ,the first 2 springs were outstanding even broke out the shorts , but this year the weather was awful ,very cold and a fair bit of rain in fact a couple of weeks it was non stop . My advice would be to wait nearer the time and check out Meteo which is reasonably good . Hope that helps .
nigelcave Posted 8 August , 2013 Posted 8 August , 2013 At least with a car you should be able to bring what you like; come prepared for almost anything and you will be fine! I hope you will stay a few days in the area - that way you will have a chance of a reasonable day. For an occasion like this you do not want to have the experience marred by bad weather.
healdav Posted 9 August , 2013 Posted 9 August , 2013 It's very simple. Work on the principle that what the weather does in Britain today it will do in Nothern France/Belgium tomorrow. Thus, cold in Britain means even colder in Northern France/Belgium. Hot in Britain means hotter in France/Belgium. I have been using this system for 40 years now and it seldom fails.

Staffsyeoman Posted 9 August , 2013 Posted 9 August , 2013 Yep, all I can say is... be prepared for all weathers. I have stood on Juno Beach in April in a blizzard...
Guest Posted 9 August , 2013 Posted 9 August , 2013 YR.NO seems pretty reliable, so you can check just before you go. For example Fricourt Mike
Tom Lang Posted 9 August , 2013 Author Posted 9 August , 2013 This is the joy of the GWF - good advice and I'm now able to build a list of links for weather forecasts of exactly the area where I'm going. Thanks once again. Tom.
