Remembering the men of the Division who landed at Suvla.

Much maligned and with no published voice to defend themselves. 98% Officer casualties and 68% OR casualties within 14 days of landing.

No tea drinkers methinks. They were too busy trying to survive.

RIP.

Never Forgotten RIP.

They had to sit around on the 8th Aug and when the Turks were ready, our top brass sent the lads in on 9th and the 21st.

33rd Brigade ended up as two composite battalions.

29% of 9th Bn Sherwood Forester total war deaths occurred on Gallipoli.

Remembering the 9th Sherwoods and the RWF territorials in particular. Far too many of 'my' boys were facing their final days.

By coincidence, a friend asked me yesterday to find details about her great uncle who was in 9th Btn. KOYLI and was killed Aug 9th 1915.

I researched to discover he perished shortly after the Battalion (32 Brigade/11th Division) landed at Suvla. I had no previous detailed knowledge about the actions of this period, concentrating more on my own great uncle who died up in the hills at Chunk Bair Aug 10th.

The losses suffered by 11th Division are startling.

Remembered today all the men of the 11th [Northern] Division who paved the way for the 53rd [Welsh] Division to land on C Beach, Suvla Bay on the 9th August - going straight into battle the following day.
