Tony Cox Posted 7 August , 2013 Posted 7 August , 2013 Hello Can anybody help with the location of the 3rd battalion of the Worcestershire Regiment on the 20th September 1918, my interest lies with a private A.Hale who was K.I.A and is buried at. RUE-DES-BERCEAUX MILITARY CEMETERY, RICHEBOURG-L'AVOUE Thank Tony
sotonmate Posted 7 August , 2013 Posted 7 August , 2013 This unit was with 19 Division which wasn't engaged in a named battle at this time,so likely part of the daily attrition of the trenches.I note that there are a few casualties for 3 Worcs in this cemetery and they seem to have been buried there,so fighting nearby,as opposed to a fair few of the graves having been brought in from other, smaller, cemeteries after the Armistice. A junior Officer and two soldiers from the Bn were killed on 18th Sept and then the same again on the 20th,so maybe to do with recce or trench raids ? The War Diary will specifiy, unfortunately it is not yet digital. Reference WO95/2086/1 and for the period Jun 1918 to Feb 1919.
Tony Cox Posted 8 August , 2013 Author Posted 8 August , 2013 Thanks for that sotonmate, i did check the war diary and noted its not yet digital, cheers Tony
