Cameron2165 Posted 6 August , 2013 Posted 6 August , 2013 Hello All, I'm hoping some pals can add to the information I have on this Officer. Lt QM Alfred William Betty, 13th Btn Rifle Bde. Entered France 13/08/15 Relinquished commission 30/12/16 Death registered March 1917 in Taunton aged 47. He was a C/Sgt in 5th Btn Rifle Bde, during the Boer war. I can find no mention of him in the London or Edinburgh Gazettes (although that is not unusual for me). Any info on his earlier career as well as his service in WW1 would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance Cam
Sandie Hayes Posted 6 August , 2013 Posted 6 August , 2013 In 1901 census he was listed as Color Sgt, 5th Rifle Brigade. He and his wife, Elizabeth, were living at Cambridge Barracks, Woolwich. They had a 2 year old daughter, Else.
Admin spof Posted 6 August , 2013 Admin Posted 6 August , 2013 Could he have ended up at home with the Connaught Rangers? http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/SearchUI/Details?uri=C1074301
Cameron2165 Posted 6 August , 2013 Author Posted 6 August , 2013 Many thanks to the both of you for your replies. The service record is interesting SPOF. I have emailed TNA for an estimate for the copying of the record. Many thanks Cam.
stiletto_33853 Posted 7 August , 2013 Posted 7 August , 2013 Hi Cam, Is the date of entry you have correct as the 13th RB Diary has him joining the battalion on 3/8/15 when they were at Nortebecourt. #9004 on Boer War Medal Rolls. Andy
Cameron2165 Posted 7 August , 2013 Author Posted 7 August , 2013 Hi Andy, You are correct, I wrote 13 not 03. Thanks for the diary look up. All the best Cam.
