Could any member please help me , I had an uncle who served throughout WW1 with the RIRs, He was Rfn Robert Adams regimental Number 11/6492.,anyone know what the 11 is before his reg no?could it be he served in the 11th batt?his service record says he was wounded twice in france 1917/1918.would like to know what battles these wounds may have been got in?

On his medal card it has the letters SWB? and if it was the 11th batt he served in is there any known pictures of the battalion?

my Uncle came to Canada in 1921 and then served in WW2 with the Canadian army for just under 5 years, though

due to his age it was not on active servce. any info on him would be greatly appreciated. thank you.B/B

PS most of the info I have on him comes from his Canadian service record, when I sent away for it I received it in less than 2 months.

Hello Bugle boy - Yes, the 11 indicates the 11th Bn. After losing so many men in the previous battles, on 13th November 1917 the 11th Bn was merged with the 13th Bn and renamed the 11/13 Bn. In anticipation of the German offensive early in 1918, the 11th and 13th Battalions were disbanded on 18th February of that year with the troops transferring to the 22nd Entrenching Bn. You will be able to find out more about these Battalions on the Long, Long Trail.

Good luck with your research, Anne

Hi BB 6198 and welcome to the GWF.

Is his service record on Ancestry? I tried to find it but couldn't. Then again sometimes my Ancestry searching skills are naff.

It would be good to know the dates of his receiving wounds because you can then say: Well, that one was probably caused

by the day to day grind of trench warfare because they weren't enaged in battle that day or that one could have been caused

at the battle of xxxxx because they were engaged in that period. etc

thanks for the welcome ulsterlad2,I dont think its on ancestry,I guess I will send to Glasgow for it, I had sent for his brothers who was a carrer soldier in the British Army, was told it would take about a year to get it,at the same time I sent for Uncle Roberts who I found out had served in the Canadian Army when I got it [less than 2 months] When I read it Much to my surprise it stated that he had served in WW1 and was wounded twice,so this has given me a whole new ave to investigate. :D

It's a shame that there are no specific dates memtioned on his Canadian File regarding WW1.

In the meantime here's some info that may help with the research. He enlisted on 24th May 1915 and was discharged on 6th August 1919.

thanks ulsterlad2,I had that info,it was on his canadian service record.both his enlistment and demob dates of when he served in the RIRs.I see you are researching 2 names in the Canadian Army, and having their regimental numbers you could get their records quite quick as I said in a previous post just under 2 months in my uncles case. and you can get them for free,if you need any more info let me know.
