V.A.D., Thornham, Norfolk

Hi there,

Does anyone know anything about the V.A.D. which was in Thornham, Norfolk? Location? Do any images exist? etc.

My husband had a Great Aunt who served as a nurse there.

Agnes Maud Johnson - worked there full-time from August 1914 - June 1917, then part-time (1,029 hours) thereafter until Feb 1919.

Many thanks in anticipation. Heather

There is a web site for Thornham which has several photographs of likely "candidates" i am sure if you make contact somebody will be able to point you in the right direction

Hello John, Thank you .... I made contact with the website and have had a gentleman get in touch. He has informed me that the VAD hospital was at 'The Red House' in Thornham. So I have been able to ID it. Sadly, I have discovered that Gt Aunt Agnes Maud Johnson had a namesake Agnes Maude Johnson - of Thornham - and I now believe that the Red Cross Service Card belongs to this Thornham Agnes!! Many thanks, anyway, because it has all helped me to understand the subject matter. Regards Heather
