Identifying a regimental badge

I think the picture has been considerably retouched - which is why the cap looks rather 'smooth'

I cant really say for sure whether it's a post war photograph But I am sure it has not been retouched its a scan of the original photograph.

Im putting on my anorak and saying it's probably a wartime photo or very soon after, judging from the small crescent-shaped peak and narrow chinstrap.

There might be more information to be gained from the full photo.

It appears to be the GW simplified blouse without pleats on the pockets, not sure of the date of introduction but during the war.
