hen190782 Posted 30 July , 2013 Posted 30 July , 2013 Hi Came across this this whilst checking the Belfast Evening Telegraph for something else! I also have a fairly long article (and picture) from February 1919 relating to his release. If anyone researching George Walklett or West Yorkshire Regiment is interested in the full-res version, drop me a PM. Regards Nigel
Allen2807 Posted 13 October Posted 13 October Do you still have access to this article? George Walklett was a relative and we have been researching why he was awarded his medals

As far as I am aware, George only received the 1914 Star, British Service Medal, and Victory Medal. These were standard medals awarded to men for service in a Theatre of War and not for any particular actions. Regards Nigel Edited 14 October by hen190782

On the contrary !! He originally attested in 1905 and served post war briefly as a musician in the RMLI, service no 21261. Portsmouth There is a record for the latter on Findmypast including this summary. He served over 11 years with the West Yorkshire Regiment. Charlie Edited 14 October by charlie962

Allen2807 Posted 14 October Posted 14 October Thanks all for your help! We have all of his medals and wanted to find out more of his military history as he was a very quiet man who didn’t share much of his past history with his family. Noone had noticed the MSM untiL the medals were taken out to show the youngest generation recently. It has been fascinating trying to piece it altogether!
