syd Posted 28 July , 2013 Posted 28 July , 2013 My great uncle, Pte John 'Jack' Roberts, died in the Great War aged 21. He served in the 2nd Battalion Devonshire Regiment (11889) and according to records held by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and in his home village, Cruwys Morchard in Devon, he died from wounds on May 30, 1915. He is buried at Boulogne Eastern Cemetery in France. Research has shown that he was probably wounded at the Battle of Aubers Ridge. However, his medal card clearly shows that he died from wounds on September 30, 1915. Could this information be incorrect? Were mistakes made on medal cards? If the medal card is correct, it would seem likely that he was injured in the Battle of Passchaendale. Any assistance with this would be greatly appreciated.
sotonmate Posted 28 July , 2013 Posted 28 July , 2013 Soldiers Died in the Great War (SDGW) also shows died of wounds on 30 May 1915. Born and enlisted Tiverton. Passchendaele wasn't until 3rd Ypres in 1917. What is supporting the 30 May date is the fact that his grave (Plot VIIIA55)and surrounding graves are 30 May 1915 or thereabouts.
