HELLO ALL,

1) I HAVE IN MY COLLECTION AN ALLIED VICTORY MEDAL NAMED TO: 6199S CHRISTOPHER DENNISON, STO. RNR.

WHAT'S THE 'S' TOGETHER WITH HIS NUMBERS MEAN?

2) DO WE HAVE A PICTURE OF THE MFA SS ELEANOR (SUNK FEB 12 1918)?

3) WHO WAS THE CAPTAIN OF THE MFA SS ELEANOR WHEN IT WAS SUNK BY UB57? WAS IT TY/ENGINEER LIEUTENANT ARTHUR THOMAS BRAIN, RNR?

MANY THANKS IN ADVANCE

Roy, `somewhere' I have `something' on SS ELEANOR - cannot think where at moment - will look.

Can tell that ; DENNISON Christopher Number L/S 6199 D.o.B ; 16.10.1889 P.o.B ; Thornaby Yorks.

PRO File No. BT 377 / 7 / 82858 Merchant Navy.

Roy. The skipper of ELEANOR at time of sinking off I.O.W, was Ty/Lt Brain (note ; not Eng.Lt).

Commemorated Portsmouth Memorial Column 30.

More info on ELEANOR may be had by putting Eleanor into SEARCH & go to gage 3/5 - much there for you methinks.

Christopher Bigg Dennison, Stoker, Royal Naval Reserve, S6199, aged 28 years of Thornaby. Son of Christopher and Sarah Dennision, 13 Derby Street, Thornaby on Tees. I don't know what the 'S' means.

One survivor from the ship - Barton Hunter.

I've searched for a photo of the Eleanor for the best part of 30 years - no joy so far.

Suffix 'S' to the official number signifies a stoker RNR serving on his first 5-year period of enrolment.
