Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, War Dead, Williamson brothers, link to F

Hello everyone,

i am conducting research into the war dead from the Fivemiletown area, County Tyrone for a new War Memorial.

There are two brothers which i am interested in.

Pte George Williamson, No. 27499, 9th Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, KIA 29th March 1918, buried Ham British Cemetery France.

Pte John Williamson, No. 15963, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, Died 8th September 1919, buried Fivemiletown Church of Ireland Graveyard.

They are listed on the 1911 Irish Census as the sons of Alexander & Annie Williamson, Carrownagiltagh, Tempo, County Fermanagh,

also on the 1901 Census, but an address at Pubble, Tempo, County Fermanagh.

I am trying to establish their links to Fivemiletown, especially as John is buried in a CWGC grave in Fivemiletown Graveyard.

It would appear that John died in 1919, as a result of his war service.

John was married to Caroline Williamson whose address was Edenmore Terrace, Tempo, County Fermanagh.

I would also be interested if anyone, could let me know which battalion John served in ?

Any help on the above would be appreciated, Jonathan.

Jonathan - hope the following is of some use. I also think both men are listed on the Enniskillen War Memorial as well. John Williamson has a pension record on Ancestry - 7 pages. A very quick summary follows: Enlisted 05/12/14, 11th Battalion, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, 18/02/15 at Randalstown, Embarked France 14/06/17, Disembarked in France 15/06/17, Wounded 16/08/17, Gun Shot Wound Forearm. Might be useful to have a look in the local churches to see if you can get a connection to Fivemiletown, congregation member or maybe moved to Fivemiletown after the end of the war. Also possible the grave in Fivemiletown was perhaps a family plot! Happy hunting, regards, Tommy.

Jonathan. Forgot to say that Soldiers Died in the Great War has George Williamson enlisting in Fivemiletown and Ireland's Memorial Record has him down as being born in Tempo. Regards, Tommy

Tommy, thanks for your help and interest in this matter, especially in reference to John being in the 11th Inniskillings.

The Williamson brothers are not listed in any of the memorals in the local churches, despite one

being buried in Fivemiletown in 1919.

I didn't realise they were listed on the Enniskillen War Memorial.

There appears to be some connection with this family to Fivemiletown, maybe from a previous generation,

which i can't pin down yet.
