carysmorgan Posted 23 July , 2013 Posted 23 July , 2013 Hello, Can anyone help me identify the uniform in this photograph please? I have no information about the individual and have tried searching online to identify the cap badge but can't seem to match it. Also, do the chevrons indicate that he was a Quartermaster as I have read on other threads in this forum? Many thanks in advance for your help. Carys
battiscombe Posted 23 July , 2013 Posted 23 July , 2013 Ordnance Corps ? see here for example http://homepage.ntlworld.com/mike.comerford/ORDNANCE/IMAGES/16_2.JPG
T8HANTS Posted 23 July , 2013 Posted 23 July , 2013 I think the four stripes indicates at least 18 years service and good conduct. The hammer and tongs indicates he was some form of articifer (skilled man) within the Ordnance Corps, and not being an expert on medals I think one of the ribbonds is the India General Service medal.
jdoyle Posted 23 July , 2013 Posted 23 July , 2013 shouldn't good conduct stripes be on the other sleeve?
Staffsyeoman Posted 23 July , 2013 Posted 23 July , 2013 Certainly a South African pair (King's and Queen's South Africa Medals) and agreed on a possible IGS. The jacket also looks like the Canadian seven-button pattern, but I'm not an expert there...
Black Sapper Posted 23 July , 2013 Posted 23 July , 2013 Seems to be an answer for the 4 chevrons & badge on right sleeve here ... Ordnance Corps Workshop Sereant Major? http://homepage.ntlw...ORDNANCE/48.htm
