Guest pollynation Posted 15 September , 2004 Share Posted 15 September , 2004 This photo is my Grandad in ww1. The problem is my family cannot decide which " grandad" it is. One served in Yorkshire L.I. The other was a Lancashire regiment. Has anyone any ideas on which one it is please. Any help would be much appreciated. Cliff. Hobson Posted 15 September , 2004 Share Posted 15 September , 2004 It looks like a K.O.Y.L.I. s badge to me. Cliff.
DrB Posted 15 September , 2004 Share Posted 15 September , 2004 The studio "coloring" doesn't help one bit. Everything is apparently an arbitrary brass or brown, with no "white metal." The K.O.Y.L.I. had a very small bugle horn in gilding metal with a white metal rose in the center. It looks like a bugle horn, but it is rather large. The K.O.Y.L.I. had the smallest cap badge in the British infantry, at that time anyway, and later it was used as an OR's collar badge as well. I really don't see any similarity to any Lancs regtl badge though. Doubtless I will be taken to task for this one. DrB
Guest pollynation Posted 17 September , 2004 Share Posted 17 September , 2004 Thanks for your replies, my aunties and uncles couldn't deciede which grandad it was, i have recieved an e-mail address too to try. I would have preferd the original not the coloured one but don't know who has it ( if it is still intact). The colours make it harder to recognise. Thanks again for all your help Pauline
