Hello

I have obtained the following information from the MIC of a possible ancestor

I can locate no service record but wondered if someone could interpret some info below for me please

Does the prefix 6/ indicate that he was in the 6th BattalionRIR

Would his Service number indicate any further info

WO 372/4/230525

Description:

Medal card of Connor, John

Corps

Regiment No

Rank

Royal Irish Rifles

6/10673

Private

Royal Irish Rifles

6/10673

Private

Date:

1914-1920

Ive checked his medal card details on Ancestry

On the medal card it refers to "S.W. Badge hist/List/B/827"

Can i ask what this means?

(Theatre of war first served in "2B/ Balkans"

Date of entry therein "19.7.15"

Remarks "Disch 392 XVI 15.6.18")

He's on the List B/827 which is stored under "Infantry (Dublin) > B 0601-0900 > page 232 in Ancestry.

Wonderful forum! At a family wedding today but justed wanted to pass on my sincere thanks for getting back to me. I am so appreciative of your assistance SPOF and Black Sapper

Ill be able to enjoy this info later at my leisure. I will also have access to the Ancestry Library Edition next week hopefully :-)

Why "Infantry (Dublin)? Would he have enlisted in Dublin or was it a repository for documents relating to those who joined in Ireland?

Dublin was the Records Office for all the Irish regiments.

Ellesmagee, In answer to your question, on an MIC, a 6 over a Service Number would indicate the Bn.
