Guest janel90 Posted 18 July , 2013 Posted 18 July , 2013 Hi from a new kid on the block - I inherited a pretty spiffy piece of history from my great-grandfather, LtGen Fritz Hofmeier. He was the Artillery Commander at the time, and a pilot/observer, Lt Otto Baer, flew over an enemy position in January 1915, drew a map of the battlement positions, put the map in the banner tube, flew back over German lines and dropped the banner and map to my great-grandfather. My son has no real interest in the piece and I certainly don't fully appreciate it's historical significance. I have decided to donate to the US Air Force Academy, but would be interested in a realistic donation appraisal value. Because of it's uniqueness, I'm having a huge problem uncovering any info on a piece like this. So I'm asking you for your help! Through my own research, I have the name and military history of the pilot observer, the airplane involved, and info about my own great-grandfather's military history. Is there anyone out there, or someone you can point me to, who could give me any appropriate donation value? Thanks so much -- Jane Atlanta, GA
egbert Posted 19 July , 2013 Posted 19 July , 2013 Jane, it should go where it belongs to and where it makes historical sense. Certainly not the USAir Force Academy, but the official German Air Force museum. Here is the contact information; their website is also accessible in English language when you click so on the drop down menue. You can use than the "contact" information to write them in English. Best wishes from Huntsville, AL. and Germany egbert
