Guest Ian Bowbrick Posted 15 September , 2004 Share Posted 15 September , 2004 As you were only awarded WW1 campaign medals such as the 14 & 14/15 Star, the British War Medal and Victory Medal for being in a country or continent where you could engage the enemy, the various places where this could be done were listed together in recognised theatres of wars, which were given a specific code - note there were two sets of codes during the war, one from 4 August 1914 to 31 December 1915 and the other from 1 January 1916 to 11 November 1918. On ORs MICs up to 1 January 1916 you will find an theatre code and date. In the case of officers you will find this information on entry dates post 1 January 1916. ie Theatre of War first served in (1) France 30 June 1915 - this soldier first served overseas in France & Flanders, entering the recognised war zone on 30 June 1915 Ian

hmsk212 Posted 15 September , 2004 Share Posted 15 September , 2004 Ian & Neil I think you have missed what Tony's question was about. Sorry Tony I don't know what the reference "Field" would mean. Steve
HarryBettsMCDCM Posted 15 September , 2004 Share Posted 15 September , 2004 Does anyone know what the term 'Field' in the Theatre of War First Served In box might mean on an MIC Hello Tony A Bit more information might help," Field" may mean "in the Field",but without something to corroborate it with we might find it difficult to help,it could pertain to Field Artillery etc, depending on the context of the entry? If you can upload a Picture of it or give further details from it so much the better. Regards "Harry"
