Guest petitefleur Posted 11 June , 2013 Share Posted 11 June , 2013 PVT. Wilbur Riley Drake was my great uncle. He was born somewhere back east Jan. 28, 1896 to Samuel and Jesse Drake. The family was able to settle on a homestead near Fargo, OK. in Ellis County in 1910. Five years later, Samuel Drake died leaving his then 19 year old son in charge of the family and their farm. I've a micro copy of his draft card that afforded some information and I also know that he was a M.G in the 109th Infantry. He was wounded in France (I don't know where, I was looking for old hospital records, but didn't find him) and was sent home where he died of his wounds Sept. 7, 1918. If anyone knows of anything else, such as his education or where he was in France, I'd greatly appreciate it.
KevinBattle Posted 11 June , 2013 Share Posted 11 June , 2013 Hello petitefleur. Nice name but not what I'd expect from an American! There is the American Battle Monuments Commission that has a WW1 database but that only contains details of some 33,717 of the 116,516 dead. I think many of those not listed may have been repatriated, you may need to contact the ABMC for more information to trace your great uncle. There are 9 Drakes listed, but only one from Oklahoma and none of them match with Wilbur Riley Drake, I'm afraid. This is the Okie:- Edwin L. Drake. Wagoner, U.S. Army. 111th Infantry Regiment, 28th Division. Entered the Service from: Oklahoma. Died: September 30, 1918. Buried at: Plot H Row 24 Grave 20. Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery. Romagne, France I hope that this may be of assistance
