I would like help with establishing the identity of a soldier from the Durham Light Infantry. From the postcard I have, the reverse states:

Mrs D Selby

20 Rosedale Terr

Horden Colliery

Co Durham

I have tried Ancestry using the 1911 Census, but I have had problems trying to search by village and street

The only Selby that I can find living in Horden in 1911 is

James William Selby 39

Margaret Selby 35

Ethel Selby 15

Beatrice Mary 13

Martha Gertrude 10

Wilfred 1

43 Eleventh Street Horden Sunderland.

Bob,

Yes I found that as well. So must be another family or it isn't Selby.

There is no soldiers registered in the AVL for Rosedale Terr Horden.

Nearest IO can find is Rosemount Terrace in Haswell.

Thanks John,

Looks like his identity will remain a mystery.

There was a Robert Selby - number 3144 / 250334 with the 6th DLI. He most likely enlisted between 10th and 12th Dec 1914. Its a long shot but...

It doesn't help much but, I can't see that Rosedale Terrace existed in Horden till after 1923.

To Durham Records Office (Voting Registers for Rosedale Terrace Horden), to find out who Mrs D Selby was.

Not sure if/ when I could make it
