2nd Battalion Middlesex Regiment Apr 1918

Recommended Posts

This officer was attached to the 2nd Middx from the 1st Glosters. There is a descrepency which suggests he may have

been with the 10th Glosters and not the 1st.

Anyway, he was killed in action on 24/04/1918 and if anyone has the diary could they supply a copy of it for a week before and after

his death or a transcription.

Cheers,

Simon.

Simon,

The date is confusing me, was he promoted posthumously, the day after his death,

Graeme,

Had a look and your right, very odd.

He only joined the Middx on the 17th April and the war diary mentions him albeit C.P.H.Heppenstall (probably a typo)

but it does mention him being transfered from the Glosters so I am sure it's him. In the diary on the 27th it has him listed

as missing. After action reports for between 24th - 27th there were 10 Officers missing and casualty rate of 93%.

Devastating !

Perhaps there was a mistake and with all the Officer casualties a promotion was granted without even knowing he was missing

presumed dead.

Simon.

His MIC shows he was commissioned to the 3rd Glosters on 24.10.16. This was him going from 2nd Lt to Temp Lt.

I'll add it too my list of things to look at when next at NA.

Cheers, Simon.
