Remembered Today:

Red Barn - Where was it?

I'm researching great-grandfather's service in 2/East Lancs Regiment up to his death in May 1915 and have come across a number of locations in the Battalion War Diary which I can't reconcile with current maps. Can anyone help?

Those I'm looking for are:

'Red Barn'

'Point Nogh'

'Pont Rochon/Pontrochon/Pont Rouchon'

As can be seen, the same places are often spelt in different ways and it's possible that all of these were incorrect!

I know these should all be located around the La Gorgue/Estaires/Aubers area.

Regards,

Duncan

Duncan, a bit of a shot in the dark, but could Point Nogh be Pont Logis?

Michelle

PS quemerford as in Calne?

Many thanks all. I think Point 'Nogh' is in fact 'Logy' - that's my poor reading of the War Diary!

And yes - Quemerford as in Cherhill...

Duncan,

Glad to help.

(Waving at you. I can see the white Horse from my bedroom window!)
