rksimpson Posted 22 May , 2013 Share Posted 22 May , 2013 Hi On Ancestry his MIC has the trio and SWB, nothing else. His Pension Records are also there - no mention of either. You could try local newspapers, but I would think he was telling a story! regards Robert
margarethurst Posted 23 May , 2013 Author Share Posted 23 May , 2013 I have got the ancestry records, the medal card had him as a private, but he was a Lance Corporal when he died, so I have searched for a further medal card as a Lance Corporal without success. My great uncle 19606 Company Sergeant Major Stephen Waywell Highland Light Infantry had the DCM and Bar but that was Gazetted and I found 2 medal cards so reluctantly I feel this may be a red herring. John_Hartley Posted 23 May , 2013 Share Posted 23 May , 2013 Wasn't the Denton Roll basically compiled by council officers going round, knocking on each door and asking "have you had any dead soldiers in your family?" Leaves it wide open for porkies to be told - bit like the entries in the various editions of the National Roll book. .
