PhilB Posted 19 May , 2013 Share Posted 19 May , 2013 My information on Thomas Joyce Atkinson is that he was OC of B Coy, 9th R Irish Fusiliers, KIA 1/7/16 and buried Ancre British Cemetery, Beaumont Hamel. He was a solicitor (MA, LlB, TCD) in Portadown, son of Wolsey Richard and Alice Atkinson. There is reference online to an incident in 1922 when, in the Donegal Civil War, members of the IRA visited the houses of prominent Unionists in attempts at abduction. The house of T J Atkinson was among those visited. Is any connection known between the two T J Atkinsons?
corisande Posted 19 May , 2013 Share Posted 19 May , 2013 There is a fairly comprehensive family tree for him and his family at http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?MS_AdvCB=1&db=pubmembertrees&rank=1&new=1&so=3&MSAV=2&msT=1&gss=ms_db&gsfn=Thomas+Joyce+&gsfn_x=XO&gsln=Atkinson&gsln_x=XO&uidh=5f3
IPT Posted 19 May , 2013 Share Posted 19 May , 2013 There's an entry in this book for Thomas John Atkinson. This family seem to have lived at CavanGarden, Ballyshannon for hundreds of years. http://archive.org/s...age/46/mode/2up
PhilB Posted 20 May , 2013 Author Share Posted 20 May , 2013 Thanks, gents. The TJA in post #3 is presumably the one mentioned as a Unionist in the Donegal Civil War.
