Wow! Thanks for the quick reply and find David.

We've had trouble finding any information on this soldier and so I couldn't be more pleased.

Thanks again,

I am looking for photographs of my grandfather, private 8941 Alfred James Mason

He was wounded and lost an eye while serving in France, June 1915. He was sent to the Cheltenham Racecourse VAD hospital, Cheltenham. He live with his parents at 2 Roland Terrace, Prestbury Road Cheltenham. He was transferred to the 605 HS Labour Corps and renumbered 270312 until discharged 'S' in 1919.

I am also searching for his medals which I have just discovered were offered for sale in September 1994 and again September 1995.

I would be so grateful if anyone can help with my searches.

thank you

Hello dink 999

Thank you so very much. I've waited for 66 years to see his darling face again. I really cannot thank you enough.

I am deliriously happy to see this image of my grandfather after waiting so long. I'm not sure if it is the image or my laptop but the image I can see is rather grainy and almost double focus on screen.

Would there be any possibility of a photograph being posted to me if I give my details and pay in advance for all costs?..if you tell me where to send it.

regards billybloggs

Hi Dave,

I am interested in any further information regards the following relatives (brothers):

3076 LCPL John H Lane MM - 1/1st Royal Gloucestershire Hussars aka Jack Lane.

2538 PTE Tom H Lane - 1/1st Royal Gloucestershire Hussars.

I've got MICs, what remains of Tom's pension papers from Ancestry, Tom's Silver War Badge entry and John's MM citation.

Would be very interested in photos if there are any available.

Much appreciated Dave,

Have some great stuff from the local papers as his father was a regular correspondent - giving them letters and snippets from the boys.

One article indicates Jack joined the RGH at 15 and later went out to work in Western Australia before the war. He then returned and joined the Met, but they would not release him at the start of the war. Eventually released and joined around May 15.
