Indefatigable Posted 10 May , 2013 Share Posted 10 May , 2013 The Baptisms for London on Ancestry have a William Blackburn baptised on 16th October 1894 at St Stephens Church, Walworth to Charles and Clara Blackburn living at 3 Sedan Street and I found a 1901 Census for him living at 107 Westmoreland Rd along with siblings Clara aged 11, Ivy aged 7 and Elma? aged 4 as well as his parents. The 1911 Census has him living with his sister Clara at his Aunt/Uncle house at 126 Poplar Walk Road, Herne Hill, his occupation is given as a Porter. Hopefully this is the right man. The 1877 Parish Map of London on the MAPCO website does show a St Paul's parish in the right area. regards Indefatigable
wulsten Posted 11 May , 2013 Author Share Posted 11 May , 2013 Indefatigable, that backs up the effect registry entry which gives his father Charles as sole legatee, so i reckon your info is my man, just need to know which library to attend, many thanks, Geoff
Admin spof Posted 11 May , 2013 Admin Share Posted 11 May , 2013 You'll probably want the Southwark Local History Library. It is on Borough High Street - a short walk from Borough tube or London Bridge mainline station. http://www.southwark.gov.uk/info/200161/local_history_library
Phil Evans Posted 11 May , 2013 Share Posted 11 May , 2013 The Herne Hill address given for the 1911 Census is actually across the border in Lambeth, so here is a link to their local studies library as well. http://www.lambeth.gov.uk/Services/LeisureCulture/LocalHistory/ Phil
