Anneca Posted 10 May , 2013 Share Posted 10 May , 2013 National Archives now have Service Records, which can be searched and downloaded, of officers who served in the fledgling RAF during the Great war. The collection in series AIR 76 consists of records of over 99,000 men and includes retrospective details of earlier service in the Royal Flying Corps or Royal Naval Air Service. http://discovery.nat...tails?Uri=C2130
jbw541 Posted 11 May , 2013 Share Posted 11 May , 2013 Thanks for posting this. I will be researching a couple of men in the RFC/ RAF in the next couple of weeks and as a novice, I did not know where to start. Thanks. Joe.
john-g Posted 11 May , 2013 Share Posted 11 May , 2013 Please note that if your man served in the RAF after 1919/20 then his record his record is still held by the RAF john-g

Anneca Posted 11 May , 2013 Author Share Posted 11 May , 2013 I didn't know these had been available before now. The information was sent to me yesterday by email from National Archives, in their May enewsletter. Anne
researchingreg Posted 20 May , 2013 Share Posted 20 May , 2013 I've found the AIR 76 Record really good. However in the my researching my uncle who was a RFC/RAF Pilot the record did not show information about the time he served as an RFC engine fitter before he became a cadet. missing out about a years Army service. It did not even give the date of joining the Army. I wonder if there are other records I could look at?.

The digitized AIR/76 files relate mainly to officers. steven belfast Posted 6 June , 2013 Share Posted 6 June , 2013 Thomas Ruddock from Belfast Errol
Errol Martyn Posted 6 June , 2013 Share Posted 6 June , 2013 These are the only Ruddocks for which an AIR 79 record is held at The National Archives: Frank Ruddock Balfour. William Cameron Ruddock George Ruddock. Victor Ruddock. Arthur John Ruddock. Roland Ernest Ruddock. However if you make a simple search for Thomas Ruddock on the TNA site a number of Thomas Ruddock names come up that relate to other types of 'non-air' files. One of them might relate to your query? If you click on this link it may work and take you directly to the listing: http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/SearchUI/s/res?_aq=thomas+ruddock&_ep=&_or1=&_or2=&_or3=&_nq1=&_nq2=&_nq3=&_sd=&_ed=&_col=0&_sw=ref&_cr1=&_cr2=&_cr3=&_ps=15&_ro=any&_rd=&_rsd=&_red=&_fr=&_st=adv Cheers, Errol
