Remembering today Lieutenant Percy Ernald Lane, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry. Killed in Action between 8th-9th May,1915.

Second son of the late Lt.Col.C.N.Lane and Mrs C.N.Lane. Educated at Malvern College.

He was slightly wounded at St Eloi on 15/3/15(GSW-right leg); rejoined regiment 31/3/15; reported missing in action 8th-9th May,1915. Confirmed as killed 30/5/15.

On the 3rd May,1915, Lieutenant Lane and fifteen men acted as rearguard to the battalion as it withdrew to a subsidiary line based on the Bellewaerde and Frezenberg Ridges.

On the 8th May,1915, Captain Dennison, Lieutenant Lane and a few men were last seen fighting a rearguard action in the front-line trench, before being overwhelmed by the German assault.

They were all later reported as missing in action, and are commemorated by name on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres.

GOC 27th Division wrote: "The PPCLI were relieved that night, but only a remnant of the Regiment was left. No Regiment could have fought with greater determination or endurance. Many would have failed where they succeeded."

RIP :poppy: :poppy:
