egbert Posted 10 September , 2004 Author Share Posted 10 September , 2004 Finally I took some pictures from the battlegrounds in front of Sailly-Saillisel were my Granddad fought his first battle 27+28 Aug 1914 against the French; the map shows the angle of view for panorama one in RED and for panorama two in BLUE

Marco Posted 10 September , 2004 Share Posted 10 September , 2004 Egbert, Aren't you afraid that this big rabbit I see in most pictures gets shot one day while 'over there'? I know I really felt I had to duck on more than one occasion during the off-season to avoid over enthousiastic Frenchmen with 12 gauge rifles Regards, Marco
egbert Posted 10 September , 2004 Author Share Posted 10 September , 2004 Yeah the French are as crazy as Alabama Rednecks when it comes to shooting. But they are very friendly towards Germans who speak French; and they respected our ready loaded twin 20mm calibre....

john w. Posted 10 September , 2004 Share Posted 10 September , 2004 Having arrived late to these wonderful photos.. and also I did the second part first I did notice the photo in the cornfield with Charles.... What great camouflague.. one can hardly see him... With the value of hindsight, perhaps the use of camouflague at the battle of the Somme might have helped John

Dragon Posted 12 September , 2004 Share Posted 12 September , 2004 Chester, thank you for the trouble you've gone to in merging these shots to make such impressive panoramas. I've enjoyed seeing them. (I was there this time last year en route to Alsace!) When you see Egbert, please pass on my thanks to him too. Guest AmericanDoughboy Posted 12 September , 2004 Share Posted 12 September , 2004 Erbert, Those are highly impressive photographs you have taken on your personal battlefield trips, I must say that I am very impressed. However, I suggest for you to remove the grey areas that show the manipulation between each photograph. -Doughboy
Dragon Posted 12 September , 2004 Share Posted 12 September , 2004 Thank you, Egbert, for sharing these views too and taking the trouble to link them with a map. Gwyn
Mark A Posted 13 September , 2004 Share Posted 13 September , 2004 Great fun Egbert. Panoramas are superb and you get a real sense of the strength of the positions the German's held. M

egbert Posted 14 September , 2004 Author Share Posted 14 September , 2004 Nice collage! why don't you do it for the pic between Thiepval and Leibzig Redoubt - that would be spectacular when the N.F. attack!!!
Guest bonza Posted 19 September , 2004 Share Posted 19 September , 2004 Messenger dog waiting for orders Egbert Who's kidding who?. Chester seems to be laying down on the job, or swinging the lead, from this distance. We all know who really runs the show, anyway! The only orders he would be waiting for would be Fillay Minyong, medium rare & a Fosters. No need to ask if you all enjoyed this year's pilgrimage, so thanks for sharing. ooRoo Pat
