Birminghamjim Posted 28 April , 2013 Share Posted 28 April , 2013 Hope it's ok to link to a Dropbox photo (first post) : http://db.tt/8LqaBixG Inherited this a while ago and I have no idea what it's called, when it might have been issued, and whether it's of much wider interest. E.W. Slater was a relative on my paternal grandmother's side. Anything any members may be able to tell me would be much appreciated

Is it paper or card and framed? or another material ? I was able to enlarge it, and it contains so much information on 375 ( S ) Royal Garrison Artillery's Officers and Men. Do you know who made it, and how did your relative come by it. Regards, LF
Birminghamjim Posted 28 April , 2013 Author Share Posted 28 April , 2013 Hi, thanks for the welcome and comments. I think it's thick paper, mounted on white card, not sure though as it is framed and behind glass. It's a touch rough around the edges so I presume the frame isn't original. I always figured it was just issued to E.W. Slater after his service, and that there would be loads and loads of them kicking around. I think Slater was my Grandmother's maiden name, unfortunately she and my father have both passed away so I can't ask. I've an uncle from that side so I'll ask him next time I see him. I've been storing at my mums for a while, will be picking it up on Tuesday so can take some better photos then if anyone's interested.
clive_hughes Posted 28 April , 2013 Share Posted 28 April , 2013 A lovely item indeed. Probably worth relocating this topic to the "Units and Formations" section and retitling it "375 Siege Battery RGA Roll" or something similar, as at present it's in the area devoted to uniforms etc. and not given a specific title. More people will home in on it with a more descriptive title, allowing the experts to comment further. I'm sure someone could explain to you how to carry out the change! But in any case, it's well worth preserving as a record of the personnel of that battery - something not easy to find out about otherwise. Lancashire Fusilier Posted 28 April , 2013 Share Posted 28 April , 2013 An excellent suggestion from Clive to relist in the Units and Formations section with the title he suggests. If you click on ' edit ' for your original post, and then click on ' Use Full Editor ', that should let you go back and alter your original heading of ' Question from a Complete Novice ' to ' 375 Siege Battery RGA Roll ' Regards, LF

ianjonesncl Posted 29 April , 2013 Share Posted 29 April , 2013 375 Siege Battery was formed 12th February 1917 at Prees Heath and I believe deployed to France in August 1917. Birminghamjim Posted 30 April , 2013 Author Share Posted 30 April , 2013 Incredible photos of the men themselves in the links above, thanks for joining the dots for me. Fascinating to link the surnames with other forum members. A few more photos for interest (excuse the quality, all done on my phone) http://db.tt/NXoDaOk2 http://db.tt/HmAIz3Tp http://db.tt/1m8IV4GX http://db.tt/wFshZtry http://db.tt/tbArfnzr I've a few more close ups of the different sections if needed but you can zoom in for most of the details from the wide shots. Not quite sure what to do with it now, it's a little unwanted to be honest as I've nowhere to hang it and the garage seems unsuitable. Trying to track down some of my dad's cousins to see if they're interested in having it.
