Sepoy Posted 26 April , 2013 Share Posted 26 April , 2013 The photographs just show how large a WW1 German U Boat was. The U118, under the command Kapitänleutnant Herbert Stohwasser, had two kills, one of which was the the defensively armed tanker SS Arca. The Arca was enroute from Philadelphia to Portishead, carrying Benzine, when it was torpedoed on 2 nd October, 1918, about 40 miles north west by west off Tory Island at 55.45N 07.35W. The Arca was lost with her Captain and 51 men.
Lancashire Fusilier Posted 26 April , 2013 Author Share Posted 26 April , 2013 The report says the Submarine's gun was presented to the town of Hastings, but was later buried in the shingle ? Does anyone know what happened to the U118's gun, or is it still buried on the beach at Hastings ? LF

LF LF, the article states the gun was recovered in 1921 and despite efforts to the contrary, it was disposed of. Had I not read that part about the gun being recovered and disposed of, I would have been booking my ticket and having a go at locating it.
