Ellis1918 Posted 25 April , 2013 Share Posted 25 April , 2013 I am researching the WW1 dead commemorated on the memorial in the grounds of my local church in Whiston , Rotherham, S Yorks. I have traced almost all of the 30 names listed and their family history but Private Joseph Wright is proving the most difficult I believe he is Joseph William Wright born in 1889 in Whiston Rotherham and is the son of John and Ellen Wright Any assistance would be much appreciated
Mike_n_Tracey Posted 25 April , 2013 Share Posted 25 April , 2013 (edited) HI, there was a Joseph William Wright of Moorhouse Cottages, Whiston, Rotherham. This man was discharged as no longer fit for military service and seems to have remained in England. He was in the Labour Corps. Name: Joseph W Wright Estimated Birth Year: abt 1890 Age at enlistment: 28 Document Year: 1918 Regimental Number: 270217 Regiment Name: Labour Corps If you want to know more, send me a PM. There are some records. I know of several memorials who list soldiers who served next to those who died. If it is definitely a soldier who died, this is a possible candidate: Name: Joseph William Wright Birth Place: Swallowuest, Rotherham Residence: Woodhouse, Sheffield Death Date: 1 Jul 1916 Death Location: France & Flanders Enlistment Location: Attercliffe, Sheffield Rank: Private Regiment: Durham Light Infantry Battalion: 15th Battalion Number: 22190 Type of Casualty: Killed in action Theatre of War: Western European Theatre My bet is the first.
